Abstract

The Taal volcano eruption last January 2020 has brought various degrees of damage to the lives of Batangueños, especially to those living around the Taal Lake. Almost a year after the disaster and with the COVID-19 pandemic still looming, how are the people and their fisheries livelihood coping? Damaged residences and livelihoods, changed landscape, displaced families−all bear witness to the Taal volcano's fury. As a country sitting on the infamous "Ring of Fire," it has been a way of life for people to live with the threats of natural phenomena such as volcanic eruptions and earthquakes, a fair share of typhoons, and in rare cases, tsunamis.
